You can hire clubs at both venues or borrow my set. BIRD WATCHING Our estuary and foreshore are home to a fascinating mix of shore birds. BUSH WALKS The Wentworth falls and Parakiwai valley just out of town offer a variety of scenic walks for the beginner to the more experienced tramper. MOUNTAIN BIKING Hire a bike and check out the trails in the nearby plantation forests. SPA Take a dip in the spa Things to do further afield for a day trip. OPOUTERE BEACH AND BUSH RESERVE A 20 minute drive North to this unspoilt surf beach (5 km of bright white sand) and beautiful estuary, a conservation area and home to the rare NZ Dotterel. HOT WATER BEACH (one hour North) Take a spade and create your own natural spa at low tide. CATHEDRAL COVE ( one hour North) Take a picnic lunch to savour this unique piece of limestone architecture. The protected beach is ideal for swimming and snorkelling. WAIHI AND THE KARANGAHAKE GORGE A 40 minute drive South to visit this historic gold mining area. Take the vintage Goldfields Railway from the town to the old gold mining relics.
