It’s an old-fashioned lodge offering child-friendly Prince Edward Island accommodations near the fishing village of French River, a short drive from both the town of Kensington and from Cavendish, where the Green Gables farm inspired Lucy Maud Montgomery to write the book Anne of Green Gables. A 2-storey log building, the Wild Goose Lodge has received a 4-star rating from Canada Select. On its 2.4 hectares/6 acres of land are swings, a horseshoe pit, a volley ball net, bats and balls, and room for soccer. There’s also a campfire pit with firewood provided, and guests can use the barbecues and picnic tables for a cook-out. Inside the lodge is a TV lounge furnished with a 42-inch plasma TV with satellite channels and a VCR and DVD player, connected to a spacious sun deck overlooking the village of French River and the countryside. The Wild Goose Lodge is associated with Wild Goose Outfitters, an outfitting service that guides waterfowl hunting trips around Malpeque Bay from late August through mid-December. The lodge is approx. a 20 minute walk from either the village of French River or Yankee Beach; Cousins’ Beach is a 10 minute drive away by car. Within a 30 minute drive are 4 championship golf courses: Green Gables Golf Course, The Eagles Glenn Golf Resort, Andersons Creek Golf Club, and Glasgow Hills Resort & Golf Club. Nearby Prince Edward Island National Park includes popular Cavendish Beach and the Green Gables Heritage Centre.
