    Discover a fascinating city created from a colourful past. Situated on the Mary River, Maryborough was first settled in 1847 and is one of Queensland's oldest cities. Many of Australia's free settlers entered the colony through the Port of Maryborough between 1859 and 1901. Maryborough captures history in its beautifully restored buildings and houses and has arguably the state's best display of homes from the 19th and 20th centuries. Its historic homes and high standards of preserved memorabillia and museums have earned Maryborough the title of "Queensland's Heritage City". Around Maryborough Be transported back in time and discover Maryborough¿s colourful past on a tour with ¿Mary Heritage¿, departing from City Hall at 9am each weekday. Dressed in period costume, ¿Mary Heritage¿ will take you on a free, one-hour guided tour of the city. Take a full day tour on the Maryborough Tours bus, which visits more than 100 historical buildings and homes. The Maryborough Heritage City comes alive on market day, every Thursday in the Central Business District of Maryborough on Adelaide and Ellena Streets. The atmosphere is vibrant, with plenty to see and do and at 1pm you can witness the firing of the time cannon by the Town Crier and Mary Heritage in Adelaide Street. Get on board Maryborough¿s Mary Ann, a full sized replica of the first steam locomotive built in Queensland in 1873. Rides operate every Thursday as part of the city¿s weekly heritage markets, and on public holidays and the last Sunday of the month during ¿Sunday in the Park¿ activities. Cruise on "The Mary" on the scenic Mary River, relax as we sail past historic homes and the Heritage Port of Maryborough. Cruise options vary from the Thursday Market Day cruises through to morning and afternoon tea cruises, as well as lunch or evening sunset barbecue cruises with refreshments included on all cruises. A visit to Olds Engine House is a must for the mechanically minded. Olds Engine House is a working engineering workshop, foundry and engine house with steam powered lathes and machinery; working model steam and hot air engines. Guided tours each Thursday or by arrangement. Rosehill Homestead, built in 1859 of hand-made clay bricks for pioneer John Eaton, and set in a picturesque park overlooking the Mary River, is a must see for those on the heritage trail in Maryborough. Rosehill Homestead is open Wednesday to Friday from 10am to 3.00pm and on Sundays from 1pm to 4pm. Phone to check opening times on Public Holidays. Within 1 Hour¿s Drive Visit Tin Can Bay and witness wild Dolphin feeding in the morning. Take a 4WD adventure tour on our world heritage listed Fraser Island. Drive to Hervey Bay - perhaps lunch at the Boat Club overlooking the marina and bay? Go freshwater fishing at Lenthalls Dam (we are a popular base for many fishing clubs!). Picnic at Teddington Weir. Drive to scenic Burrum Heads - perhaps a bit of saltwater fishing. Tour the wineries of the Burnett (fast gaining a reputation for quality wines). Consider a full day. Drive to Gympie for a steam train ride. Visit one of the many seaside villages on the Great Sandy Strait - Maaroom, Boonooroo, Tuan and Poona (great for boating & fishing). Play a round on one of QLD's best gold courses - Maryborough Golf Course (just around the corner). Stroll through the heritage markets - every Thursday in the middle of town. Drive to one of the various ferries for a trip to Fraser Island. Stroll around Ululah Lagoon - watch the bird life, have a BBQ or watch the kids on the skatebowl.
