Welcome to Southern Vales...
Southern Vales Bed & Breakfast is a 20 year old colonial style home with full return verandah, set on a one and a half acre property. Located in the heart of McLaren Vale, our close proximity to major wineries and the town centre is a proven favourite with guests.
We have put together this website to show you some of the key features we have to offer, and to provide a little insight into the wonders of McLaren Vale and the Fleurieu Peninsula. Please feel free to browse and take a look around. If there is something we have not covered, or you would just like to know more, please do not hesitate to contact us.
With the gently rolling Mount Lofty Ranges forming a backdrop, the town of McLaren Vale nestles amongst vineyards. It is a stunning sight and a welcome introduction to the historic area.
A Scotsman, John McLaren, who named it McLaren Vale, originally surveyed this beautiful valley in 1839. Two small villages, Gloucester and Bellevue, were established here in the 1840's by migrants from Great Britain, In 1923 buildings from these villages merged, adopting the name of the valley. Many buildings from these early days can still be found in and around the area. Early life was founded on farming with and emphasis on cereal crops.
Evidence of the prosperity in the era can be found in McLaren Vale today. McLaren Vale is now a busy town with about 2000 residents and makes an ideal base when exploring the McLaren Vale Wine Region and other attractions in the Fleurieu Peninsula.
Southern Vales can accommodate up to 8 guests in it's four rooms. There are three ensuite double-rooms, and one twin-share room with its own separate bathroom. The rooms are named after famous Australian authors, including Banjo Patterson, Dorothea MacKellar, Henry Lawson and Steele Rudd. Each room is adorned with small features personifying the author, and a respective well-known novel by each bedside. This has been especially popular amongst our international guests.
A large lounge/dining room is available at all times for guests with tea & coffee facilities always on hand. A buffet-style continental breakfast and country-style cooked breakfast, is served in the dining room and is included in the tariff. There is a gazebo off the rear verandah near the dining room, and breakfast is often served outdoors in the warmer months, overlooking the vineyard & native garden.
Fully air conditioned and heated by wood-burning fires, the guest area consists of three rooms with ensuites and one twin-share room (the twin beds are convertible to a king size bed if needed) which has its own large separate bathroom. Bathrobes are provided in all rooms and guests are given keys to allow freedom of movement as they please.
We realise and appreciate the fact that each persons idea of a holiday is different. At Southern Vales we respect each persons desires, and you will find you are well-accommodated for regardless of the nature of your travels. If you prefer to spend time alone or enjoy your privacy, then the serene atmosphere will please even the most discerning traveller.
We find the majority of our guests seek the personal touch and atmosphere that is provided by the Bed and Breakfast experience. Allan and Carol are well-known in the community and are renown for their great hospitality.
