Killyrudden Bed & Breakfast Tairua

Hotel Overview : Killyrudden Bed & Breakfast Tairua

Killyrudden is a three storied hillside home built on the side of an old (extinct) volcano, known locally as Mount Paku, which is the northern shore of the Tairua Harbour entrance.
From all rooms your view is of the ever-changing tidal patterns of the harbour and beyond the volcanic peaks of the skyline.
The rooms open onto elevated decks and from there guests may enjoy dramatic sights as the sun sets behind "The Pinnacles".
As Margaret is a keen gardener, the years have seen the dense undergrowth cleared and replaced by landscaping and planting in mostly native species of shrubs and trees, many of which over time have grown to large specimens.
As this locality abounds in native bird-life, we encourage their presence with our feeding station - much to guests delight. Killyrudden is a smoke-free home but we do supply ash trays on the decks outside the rooms.

Attractions - Killyrudden Bed & Breakfast Tairua

As we are in a conveniently central position in the Coromandel Region, guests may travel to many varied destinations in this tourist paradise. To the north a good day trip is across the peninsular by the "309" road, visiting the beautiful Kauri Grove reserve, the Waiau Water Works and then on to the famous Driving Creek Railroad and then home via the northern beaches of Matarangi and the attractive seaside town of Whitianga. Also to the north, but only a short drive, is the world famous Hot Water Beach and the Cathedral Cove. The beach resorts of Hahei and Cooks Beach will deserve a visit and complete the day. To the south, another day trip will take you through past and present gold mining areas. The Karangahake Gorge area has fascinating relics of the old workings wich have been represented as an intriguing look into the past and at Waihi is the huge pit of the Martha mine which continues as an open cast operation to the present. From Waihi, the coast road will bring you home via the busy sea-side town of Whangamata. To the west, visit the main town of this area, Thames, and take the scenic Thames Coast Highway to the north. Around Christmas time, this road is renowned for the brilliant displays of crimson Pohutukawa blossom (the New Zealand Christmas tree). Back in Tairua just relax on our various beaches, and do a little surfing and swimming or perhaps take a boat trip out to the off-shore islands or for a bit of fishing. A short walk to the top of Mount Paku gives one of the best views in New Zealand.

Follow SH25A till you arrive in Tairua after a 35 min drive. Turn off to the right onto Manaia Road, in the centre of the shopping centre.
