Rifugio Monzino

The refuge is a comfortable brickwork building, in one of the most spectacular positions on the Mont Blanc, also visible from the bottom of the Val Veny valley: in 1965 it replaced the old Capanna Gamba, in memory of the young Milanese climber Franco Monzino. Rifugio Torino Vecchio

Not all the structures which can be reached by cableway today can still be considered refuges. However, the two Torino refuges, deserve to be included in the list because of their historical importance - the Colle del Gigante has been used by mountaineers since the times of Horace-Benedict de Saussure - and the role which they play for mountaineers heading towards Mont-Blanc du Tacul, its satellites, and Dente del Gigante and Aiguille de Rochefort.
