You can wander around the gardens or relax in our summer house surrounded by native trees and shrubs which attract native birds including fantails, silver-eyes and grey warblers. Our extensive rose gardens contrast markedly with the native gardens and ensure a season-long mosaic of colours and scents. Integrated into the whole landscaping desgin are fruit, nut and berry trees, and a wide range of vegetables - all for our guests' enjoyment. Choose from four double rooms (one with ensuite) luxuriously furnished. |

Go up, up, up in the Gondola and dine at the top (as you look down on Christchurch and across the Canterbury Plains to the Southern Alps). Hagley Park and the Court Theatre also await you. Ferrymead Historic Park, Sumner and Brighton beaches, Yaldhurst Transport Museum, Diamond Harbour Ferry, arts and crafts shops, cafes and the French History Museum in the historic township of Akaroa are all within easy reach. Visit the Barry's Bay Cheese Factory on the way to Akaroa - Barry's Bay, where cheese is created - not just made. Walk along the pier in Akaroa and see the blue pearls at Akaroa Blue Pearls Ltd. Visiting during the winter months? We are only one to two hour's drive to four ski fields in Canterbury - Mt Hutt, Craigieburn, Porter Heights and Temple Basin. The Tranz Alpine Scenic Train day trip from Christchurch to Greymouth return (in winter or summer) is a wonderful experience - in fact, you can catch the train in Rolleston and be dropped off before 6:00 pm in the evening. What have we missed? Mona Vale, QEII Swimming Pool and Sports Centre, Dean's Bush, Lyttelton Harbour, Orana Park, the Airborne Honey Factory at Leeston, Hanmer Springs Thermal Alpine Village, Clydesdale wagon trips, 4WD tours and shopping are but a few - and there's more. You won't want to go home!

DIRECTIONS TO GARTDEN VIEW BED & BREAKFAST, ROLLESTON As you drive from the airport, turn right on to Russley Road (cross over Yaldhurst Road) and head for Hornby, then turn right on to State Highway 1 (south to Timaru and Dunedin). We are 12 kms (10 minutes) from the Hornby shopping centre. Pass through the new traffic lights at Rolleston (opposite the railway station) to the BP Station. Turn left into Tennyson Street and proceed 1 km to the second roundabout. Turn sharp right onto Lowes Road (not Goulds Road), continue for 500 yards; we are just past some very tall gum trees on the left ¿ through a pine hedge. Our sign is right there at 133 Lowes Road.

The Governors Bay Hotel was first established in 1870 as The Ocean View Family Hotel. Through the 1990s the hotel fell into disrepair and became known as the Smugglers Arms. In 2000 it was fully renovated and renamed as the Governors Bay Hotel and still retains many of its original features.
