Fuerteventura Grand Tour
Your first stop is at a village about 10 minutes outside Corralejo called Lajares. Here you will find a cross-stitching and lace making shop - a tradition from across the Canaries. Each island has its own style influenced by the history and flora from that island.
Continue on to a village 30 minutes away called Tefia, to the eco-museum "La Alcogida". This village has been recreated from the ruins of the original village. The ruins were re-built using the same materials and methods originally utilized, and the houses are furnished and decorated in exactly the same style.
Your lunch stop is a 30 minute drive away from the museum in a village called Antigua. Lunch consists of starter soup, main chicken, chips and salad, with fresh fruit for desert. Wine, water and bread accompany lunch. The alternative for vegetarians is salad followed by Spanish omelette.
Your next stop is in the original capital of Fuerteventura - Betancuria. There is a visit to the church (the first one built in the Canaries in 1404) and the goat farm where you can sample the famous local cheese and lots of other local products. You will also have the opportunity to buy souvenirs here.
Drive through the mountains to the next stop of Pajara - once voted the 6th prettiest village in all of Spain. The church here is the point of interest because there is a strong Aztec influence in the design of it.
Finally its on to a village called Tiscamanita - setting of a battle between the locals and the British. In this village you stop at an Aloe Vera plantation where you are invited to sample the product in its raw form and learn how the soothing gels and lotions are made.
