After a scenic drive through the farms and villages west of Belize City, you'll board a motorized canoe that will take you upriver to the Panti Maya Medicinal Trail. As you pass the high limestone cliffs of the Macal Branch of the Belize River, look out for colorful parrots, toucans and iguanas perching in trees along the riverbank.
At the Panti Trail, your guide will point out plants and herbs still used by Belizeans for medicinal purposes. After lunch, you'll start your return to Belize City, with a stop at the Cahal Pech Maya ruins. The highlight of this small archaeological site is corbel-arched rooms dating back to 1000 B.C.
