The Painted Fish Hotel Fremantle

Hotel Overview : The Painted Fish Hotel Fremantle

Located just three blocks from South Beach and a short stroll from Fremantle, The Painted Fish boasts sustainable accommodation in a beautiful seaside garden.
Three uniquely Freo dwellings, set amongst air cooling ponds and organic vegetable gardens offer guests the perfect setting for relaxation and contemplation; an oasis within a stone's throw of the excitement of Fremantle.
Sustainability is a focus at The Painted Fish. Guests will experience developments such as photovoltaics, rain water harvesting, and innovative heating and cooling systems in a series of climatically sensitive, retrofitted dwellings. One of our goals at the Painted Fish is to reduce our impact on the environment while maintaining a beautiful place to live.
At the moment a 1.12 kilowatt gird connected photovoltaic array produces a great deal of our own power and an evacuated tube solar hot water system with gas booster allows for continuous hot water. Two large rainwater tanks collect water for garden and household use. We provide bikes to encourage guests to avoid car use around town and vegetable gardens provide food for us and guests (and the bobtail lizards who love our strawberries!). We use low impact appliances and cleaning products and promote local, family run businesses.
The Painted Fish offers three accommodation options - the carriage, the studio and the cottage. Each accommodation option has kitchen facilities with tea, coffee, sugar etc provided, a fridge, cooking facilities and basic crockery and linen. All places are non smoking, and have access to laundry facilities and wireless broadband internet. No televisions are supplied but each accommodation option has books, games to play and some basic art equipment. We have provided small stereos and a collection of CDs but ask that you consider the impact of your musical tastes on others. Surrounding each accommodation are water wise gardens or vegetable patches. Central to the property are two large ponds, with several smaller pools hidden away - with fish, frogs and yabbies. During summer the frogs can set up quite an orchestra - most people like it and even find it soothing, but Shani finds it hard to sleep some nights so we do provide earplugs in case it all gets too much.
The property is also a living gallery, with many local artists providing soft furnishings, sculpture and paintings. Come and enjoy!

There are several great breakfast places and an authentic French pastry house for afternoon coffees! There are two pubs on the way into town, both with bottle shops ¿ the Davilak and the Seaview. The Davilak is definitely the 'local' pub, there is a fun Irish session there on Sunday afternoon, and live music often. The Seaview has recently been refurbished and has a quite nice restaurant inside. And the not so essential . . .
